Silcock Leedham Appointed To Roundhay School Extension

Roundhay Through School was established in 2012 following the completion of a new primary school off-site. Its first primary cohort will move into the secondary school in 2019, but without the proposed expansion project there will be insufficient teaching accommodation to enable the admission limit to increase from 250 to 300 places in Years 7 to 11. Funding has therefore been secured to provide a new 3,700m2 facility which will provide additional teaching space and will also house the school’s ICT teaching department. The scheme will also include a new synthetic sports pitch capable of multiple sporting use, new changing rooms to Sport England standard and additional car parking facilities.

Silcock Leedham have been employed to provide comprehensive electrical and mechanical design and support services from RIBA Stage 1 to 4A, including upfront concept design support and guidance to allow the client team to make informed decisions about their building, along with efficient design strategies to ensure best value for money. Silcock Leedham duties also included the development of a comprehensive Revit model, providing a visual aid to the school to prompt concept discussions, as well as aiding detailed coordination and clash detection  to assist spatial fit. SLCE have been influential in developing the energy strategy for the building, inputting on thermal efficiency of the envelope, orientation and solar control measures.
