SLCE Appointed As Lead Consultant for the University of Bradford’s Energy Quarter CHP, Micro District Heating System and Energy Optimisation Works.

The project is a collaboration of the estates engineering technical staff and SLCE’s experience in the installation of CHP and energy optimisation. The total works value is approximately £1.9m with funding sourced from the EU. The works will contribute to the university’s status in the ‘GREEN League University’ Tables. Completion of the CHP installations is due September 2016.

The CHP installation will amalgamate and consolidate legacy gas boiler plant to introduce a number of central combine heating and power units to reduce the energy quarters energy consumption. The CHP units will be specifically operated to reduce the University’s electrical energy consumption whilst supplementing existing and remaining boiler plant to provide the energy quarter buildings with heating and hot water.

The energy optimisation works consists of a number of measures to improve the energy efficiency, and reduce the energy consumption, of legacy mechanical and electrical services within the energy quarter buildings. This includes the installation of new chiller and air handling plant to be designed to meet current legislation in terms of energy efficiency.

The university have a number of CHP installations on site, and with the energy quarter installation, aspire to be an electrical energy consumption neutral or negative campus.
