Silcock Leedham were appointed to provide full design and consultancy duties to this unique facility. This included the design of a microscopy suite to accommodate an ultra high resolution field emission electron microscope along with a general electron microscopy laboratory.  The new nano centre is a jointly supported facility with JEOL a world renowned FEEM supplier and operator.

The highly sensitive nature of the equipment within the facility meant the building had to achieve close temperature control whilst maintaining a very high specification of noise and vibration isolation.  In order to ensure full compliance with the electron microscope operating specification our duties also included assessment of EMF interference, compressed air design, process chilled water design and laboratory gasses.
