Through our previous experience and enthusiasm for historical and conservation projects, we have been appointed as the MEP engineers for the new Amarna Visitors Centre and Gardens at the ancient city of Akhetaten. The ancient city of Akhetaten, founded circa 1350 BC by the Pharaoh Akhenaten, is the only example of a nearly complete urban structure of ancient Egypt surviving to the modern day. The site currently receives around 50,000 visitors per year, but is rising steadily with the increasing number of Nile Tourist activity.
We are working closely with specialist Egyptian Antiquities architect Michael Mallinson and the British Council in Egypt to establish antiques environmental criteria and construction methodologies. The project will be constructed using local labour and, as far as possible, local materials and resources, meaning we have to be creative and innovative in our design solutions.
