This commission consisted of two new buildings as well as the refreshment, remodelling and refurbishment of other parts of the school's existing estate.
A new business and enterprise centre was to be built at the front of the re-worked academy. The three storey building was to offer a variety of corporate, open plan and cellular business centre-style spaces and bring together learning centres, classrooms, IT suites and seminar and conference areas.
Other facilities included the delivery of a purpose built sports science facility and the conversion of the old gymnasium into a performing and creative arts centre.
Silcock Leedham was appointed to provide full electrical and mechanical services from RIBA Stage A to Stage D and BREEAM Assessment Services.
The combination of new and refurbishment works made this a challenging commission and resulted in a complex decant strategy to ensure that the college remained operational during construction.
We spent extra time on site to ensure that our proposed design could be accommodated into the existing estate’s buildings. This included carrying out intrusive surveys in the absence of record drawings, to ensure we were able to provide a ‘best fit’ solution. We worked closely with the project team, accepting that we needed to be flexible in our approach to meet the demands of this complex construction and decant programme.
