The STAR Centre in Keighley, accommodated within the Leeds City College Keighley Campus, is an unique and exciting fit-out project that uses a space theme as a vehicle for developing STEM in a lively science hub to encourage learners to undertake science related subjects. The centre uses themed areas to stimulate learning including the cosmodome, mission control laboratory and planetary surface
Silcock Leedham was appointed to complete the mechanical and electrical services design. Specialist lighting design was carried out in-house to create a unique lit environment within each space. LED lighting played a large part in the design which was integrated into the furniture to replicate electronic controls and other features. Colour change LED was used to maximum effect in order to exaggerate the transition between spaces and the suspension of disbelief in the passage of distance and time.
As a member of a wider design team, Silcock Leedham was able to develop a creative client brief and work with numerous specialist designers, manufacturers and fit out contractors to ensure that all power, data and control interfaces provided as part of the general electrical contractors works package, were incorporated for a seamless fit between the shell and fit out elements of the project.
Silcock Leedham are proud to have been in involved in creating a unique facility. The successes of the project has surpassed all client expectations and has attracted a wide level of interest at both local and national level.
