Client’s Requirements

The centre provides spacious accommodation of more than   4,500m2 to bring together a wide range of health and care services.

Two GP practices were relocated to the new building, along with a new NHS dental service, onsite pharmacy and supporting services including nursing, physiotherapy, outpatient clinics, speech and language services, a smoking cessation clinic and sexual health services.

In addition, the building also accommodated the new offices of Birmingham and Solihull LIFT Co and a range of wider PCT teams including district nursing, school nursing and health visiting services.

The building was designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent, using a range of traditional and innovative design solutions, to ensure energy efficiency was maximised, whilst contributing to patient comfort and the visitor experience.

Silcock Leedham’s Contribution

Silcock Leedham was appointed as Building Services Engineering Consultant to provide full co-ordinated detailed design and working drawings for the M&E Contractor, working from an approved RIBA Stage D concept design.

Silcock Leedham was responsible for the full mechanical, electrical and public health designs.

Added Value / Unique Selling Points

In addition to designing the engineering services and producing working drawings, Silcock Leedham provided specialist dynamic thermal and natural ventilation computer modelling and lighting design.

The complexity of the services installation required the use of Cad-Duct 3D modelling of all plant areas and main service runs to reduce / eliminate services co-ordination problems.
